Learn about virtual Global Summer Studies 2021 from the four 2021 course faculty, who will elaborate about each of their virtual studios, alongside the RISD Global team. Join us as we answer questions about each course and the application, payment, and scholarship processes.

These three-week art and design virtual global studio courses are led by RISD faculty and designed to broaden perspectives, de-center experiences and reframe assumptions by exploring the intersections of craft, art and design as they manifest around the world.

For summer 2021, RISD Global will offer four art and design courses, each inspired by a global destination:

All courses offer three RISD academic credits. Application is first-come, first-serve and will be open March 1 – April 18, 2021. Global Summer Studies are open to undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at RISD or in other art and design institutions worldwide, as well as recent graduates practicing in the field.

Global Summer Studies

RISD Global Summer Studies courses are unique, short-term global learning opportunities, designed and led by RISD faculty. These courses take place for three to five weeks between fall and spring semesters. RISD's global travel course portfolio reflects the school's commitment to community learning edification through an internationalized lens, so that its societal contributions have multicultural contextualization and profound impact. Travel courses are natural extensions of RISD's Providence campus curriculum. Each one provides integral depth to diverse cultural milieu, as well as ways of making, from artists and designers throughout various regions of the world.

Global Summer Studies are open to undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at RISD or in other art and design institutions worldwide, as well as recent RISD graduates.

The scholarship application for Global Summer Studies will open on December 20, 2024 at 9:00 AM and close on January 20, 2025 at 11:59 PM. The Global Summer Studies course application will open on February 1, 2025 at 7:00 PM and close on March 15, 2025 at 11:59 PM.
