Call for Faculty Proposals – Global Summer Studies 2025 & Wintersession Travel Courses 2026

RISD Faculty are invited to plan short-term travel courses exploring art and design in varied corners of the globe. All continents would be applicable; priority will be given to programs taking place in unique destinations.

In order to be reviewed, proposals for Global Summer Studies 2025 and Wintersession Travel Courses 2026 must be submitted by faculty via Coursedog by September 25th 2024 at 11:59PM. Interested parties can submit a course for one term or both terms:

*Late submissions will not be considered.


Eligibility: RISD full- and part-time faculty are eligible to apply. Each travel course must be led by either two RISD faculty or a RISD faculty and RISD graduate student TA. Wintersession Travel Courses require TU approval. In the cases where Global Summer Studies have two faculty propose to lead a course together, the stipend is divided between them. All faculty who lead off-campus global learning courses must comply with RISD’s policy for off-campus teaching.

For two faculty leaders, student roster capacity is minimum 14 students, maximum 16 students. Courses with one faculty leader are minimum 12 students, with maximum 14. Budgets must reflect the total cohort; increasing from minimum to maximum is at the proposing faculty's discretion.

Application Process: Applicants will be given Coursedog credentials for submission by the Registrar’s Office only after sharing their intent to propose with RISD Global via email: global@risd.edu.

All proposing faculty must submit their intent through Coursedog a:

  • course proposal form
  • signed Faculty Terms of Agreement
  • draft syllabus following institutional guidelines
  • draft itinerary

Budget proposals need to be in the institutional template, any format differentiating from this will not be considered.
