Given the ongoing and global COVID-19 pandemic and its significant impacts on travel, borders and visa restrictions, as well as RISD’s campus re-opening plans, all RISD Global off-campus learning programs are suspended for Fall 2020 and Wintersession 2021.

These unprecedented and very difficult decisions to suspend our programs -and RISD Global Exchange for Fall 2020 and Wintersession Travel Courses 2021- were deeply considered and ultimately taken for the best interest, health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and partners.

All our hopes and efforts are now focused on re-opening global off-campus programs for future semesters. We will continue to post updates about Spring + Summer 2021 on this page and the related program pages for Exchange and Global Summer Studies.

RISD Global is open all summer and available for you! Will Wintersession Travel Courses take place in Wintersession 2020?

No, unfortunately all RISD Global off-campus learning programs are suspended in Wintersession 2021. Our next short-term travel courses are anticipated to run in Summer 2021. Can I still apply for Exchange at a partner university in Fall 2020?

No, Global Exchange will not be active for RISD students nor for students from our partner institution hoping to come to RISD for Fall semester 2020.

Can I still apply for Global Exchange at a partner university in Spring 2021?

At this time, we plan to proceed with Spring 2021 applications. We are looking closely at the public health recommendations in the US and globally, as well as at travel recommendations. In early Fall, we anticipate making a final decision about Spring semester study abroad programs and, in the meantime, we will continue to post updates as information becomes available on this page and the RISD Global Instagram, as well as the related program pages. The application for Spring 2021 programs is completed online and may be submitted by eligible students even if not on campus in Fall 2020. When will Global Summer Studies 2021 courses be announced?
