RISD Celebrates International Education Week (IEW)
The Office of International Student Services (OISS), RISD Global and the Office of Intercultural Student Engagement (ISE) invite you to celebrate International Education Week with us from November 16–20, 2020.
What is International Education Week?
“International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.” (IEW website)
Throughout the week, OISS, RISD Global and ISE will be highlighting RISD student international experiences on social media, sharing how these experiences have impacted them in different ways. Please like or follow our offices on social media to learn about international education and the students who have or are still participating in their international experience.
On Friday, November 20 Residence Life, ISE and OISS will host “Postcards Home” from 11am- 1pm EST in the 15 West and Met lobbies. Pick up a postcard and send them to family or friends anywhere in the world! Postcards will be stamped, including extra stamps for international postage, and feature a beautiful view of the RISD campus.
RISD values the role of international education in creating global citizens—not only what it offers to an individual student experience and their growth, but how it enriches our campus and teaches us about places, cultures, people and ideas that we might not otherwise be exposed to. While we do not always have to leave home to learn across differences, our international students and our students who have had an opportunity to study in a country that may be different than their own are able to gain a different perspective on the world. Creativity, diplomacy, global learning and culturally-informed approaches are all some of the many reasons to celebrate international education at RISD!
