Call for Applications: Short-Term Teaching/Residence Opportunity at China Academy of Art

Posted: September 3, 2019

Open to faculty who will be on sabbatical/leave in the Spring semester of 2020:

Thanks to the wonderful connections created by Professor Peter Tagiuri (RISD, ARCH), among others, over the years, the China Academy of Art in Hanghzou, China (in the top two art schools in China) has reached-out to invite 2-3 RISD faculty to Hagnzhou to teach a four-week workshop on their campus this Spring 2020.

The opportunity is open to faculty in all disciplines to teach a four-week studio workshop for third year Architecture students at the CAA, Hangzhou. The teaching takes place during the week, with free time to travel over the weekend. The precise dates are to be confirmed, but are typically in late-February and March. CAA is open to faculty from all disciplines leading these studio workshops.

The CAA takes care of all travel expenses (except for the visa fee). In addition, typically, breakfast and lunch are provided on a daily basis. And, faculty have received a modest stipend.

In order to apply for consideration, please submit a one-page statement of interest to announce:

  • why you are interested in leading a 4-week workshop at the China Art Academy in Hangzhou,
  • how will this opportunity benefit you, your work, and RISD contributions?
  • how would you go about preparing for this teaching experience? and
  • share any experiences you have had that prepare you to engage in this opportunity.
If interested, we invite you to submit your application to global@risd.edu by our extended deadline of September 30, 2019.
