Researching Craft and Materials in Oaxaca

Exposing students to materials based on the the area of Oaxaca to design a collaborative project with the community.

Silvia Acosta, Professor of Architecture, received a GEforCD grant to prepare a design-build studio in Oaxaca, Mexico which took place in WS2020. With this research grant, Silvia located and solidified necessary partnerships and did all of the on-the-ground preparatory work towards the class.

About this Travel Course

Oaxaca’s colonial history is intertwined with indigenous cultures that reside along the city edges, and is the source of a rich contemporary art scene. Introducing students to ways in which to translate and collaborate their properties into new applications and processes of assembly.
