Some English instruction
HKU offers a wide variety of Bachelor's-level courses in fine art, design, music, theatre, media, games and interaction, arts education and arts management. As an exchange student you will take part in the courses offered in the Bachelor's programs. Each course has defined specific semester(s) in which exchange students can enroll.
The Bachelor course Spatial Design is taught in Dutch and exchange students are supervised in English. This is also the case with the Integral Design Project in which students work autonomously on the project and are guided on an individual basis. Spatial Design regularly receives exchange students and has experience with the integration of exchange students in this semester.
During the exchange period students get a buddy who will help them finding their way in the curriculum & school and, if necessary, will translate the essentials of supporting classes/workshops.
Our partnered RISD departments may apply to HKU for the following semesters only:
Almost all HKU Bachelor's-level courses are taught in Dutch language. Exchange students may attend and will be supervised in English. Although most Dutch people speak excellent English, for a successful exchange at least basic Dutch language skills are recommended.
HKU offers a Dutch language course in Fall, starting in the second week of September. It is a basic level course of 10 lessons and is especially designed for HKU students.
HKU utilizes the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) to award academic credit for coursework. For transfer to RISD, 2ECTS is equivalent to 1 RISD credit.
The entire application process will be completed using an online application portal. Apply the semester before you plan to attend.
